Assumptions People Make About Brand Nationality

Ford and Vauxhall are two of the most popular car manufacturers in the UK, they both have huge ranges which appeal to a very wide demographic. It is odd then that many people are misguided about the nationality of these manufacturers, a surprisingly large amount of people believe that U.S auto forms Vauxhall and Ford are British.

 

Why could this be? Many people know that VW Mercedes and the Audi Q7 are renowned for their interior quality, efficiency and high residual values, and that Ferrari is all about the Italian flair and style, what do we associated Ford and Vauxhall with however? Do they really have distinct characteristics? I would have to say no, You can’t really pin Ford down to making super quick sports cars, or family saloons, or city cars, they do everything, ditto with Vauxhall.

 

It is this lack of identity that contributes to people being unaware of their nationality. Anyhow, if you don’t know yourself I’m going to put you out of your misery. Ford and Vauxhall are both American brands. Surprised? May people are. It is the aggressive re-branding of their business in different countries that makes them hard to pin down.

 

Ford have a totally different set of cars for people to but in the U.S, more bigger, they are longer, wider and have bigger engines than their UK counterparts they do’t always have the Ford Fiesta for example. Vauxhall operate under the name of their parent company, GM who also pedal a totally different range of cars for the yanks.

 

To make things even more confusing, GM not only rebrands its cars from the U.S to the UK, but also differentiates between the UK and the rest of Europe. In Europe Vauxhalls are called Opels, are fitted with car mats and have a different badge. This is all to do with what the marketers deem appropriate for each region but it seems to be that it just confuses people. Finally just to throw people off the trail totally, GM cars in Australia are called Holdens but they are also exported to the UK under the Holden badge as well as being available in Vauxhall guise!
