Police Have Shot And Arrested A Man After Poaching A Rhino
Limpopo- A Suspected Poacher Has Been Arrested And Is Being Safely Guarded In Johannesburg Hospital.
Lieutenant colonel Ronel Otto “he’s yet to appear in court as he is still in hospital, he was shot in the hip and may not be able to walk again” The suspected man was arrested on the weekend in Naboomspruit after a rhino was shot dead.
Sounds of guns shots awoke the farmer and his workers at 5am, they went to investigate the suspect sounds and found a dead white rhino.
The farmer informed the local authorities and formed a hunting party between the Police and his workers to hunt down the poachers which had wrongfully shot the rhino dead.
The operation stretched an entire day until 5pm when sightings of men with guns where spotting on the savannahs, as the party went to investigate the suspected men jumped into a frenzy of aggression and opened fire on the police.
One of the men was shot by the police in an hour long shoot out before the other poachers ran off leaving their injured member behind.
Lieutenant colonel Ronel Otto said “he was arrested and taken to hospital, he is under police guard. The Rest of the Poachers are still at large
Poaching is on the increase as 210 rhinos have already been found dead since the beginning on 2010 this has been a monumental rise since 2009 were 122 rhinos where killed. Tourists on Safari Holidays are Less likely to catch an astonishing glimpse of a rare rhino if hunting like this continues.
Rhino’s are endangered species with very low numbers left, and are killed and ravaged for their Ivory horn which is used for outdated Asian medical practices.
